Lament the Loss of Family

This makes the list of (seemingly) one of the harshest things Jesus says, but he was remaining true to His mission and prioritizing His calling when His family sought to rein Him in. We have to wonder if the calling Jesus had caused deep sorrow because of the estrangement he experienced from his family. Family is supposed to be a place of unconditional acceptance, but too often is a place of deep hurt and rejection. Jesus knows what it is like to experience the loss of meaningful relationship with the ones He loved most.
