Get Ready (Palm Sunday)

In the time of Jesus, the temple complex and altar were still central to Jewish practice - even as the synagogue and commitment to the text became more prominent. It was a powerful, entrenched, wealth generating system for the religious aristocracy. Jesus first causes a scene and then makes a bold declaration about how this whole system is going to be replaced. Someone greater than the temple is here! It is an unbelievable claim—that this whole altar system is coming to an end! Something brand new is going to happen here.
