Outside Eden

Aug 20, 2023    William Jones

The murder of Abel by Cain is a sensational story, but the climax of murder misses the subtleties of the day-to-day ordinary life outside of Eden. Sin is now a reality - it's dangerous, subtle, nuanced, hidden, but always present. But in the beginning God shows up in grace while “sin is crouching.” God shows up even before Cain murders Abel to reveal his envious heart to him. But in the spirit of envy, Cain rejects God’s grace, murders Abel, and remains unrepentant for his action. And yet, Cain is still the recipient of God’s mercy - salvation is offered through receiving grace. Abel points to One who would come later - whose blood offers all people this grace.
