God-Bearing Mary

While Mary was chosen to play an incredibly special role in the redemption story, the account told through the gospels doesn’t exactly point towards the lofty titles and status such as "Theotokos" or "God-Bearing". Instead, the gospel writers go out of their way to portray the ordinariness and lowliness of Mary. The point is not how much she differs from us—but how much she reflects and represents us in our commonness and brokenness. If God chose Mary to carry His Son into the world, God can also use ordinary people like us to carry Jesus into the world.
