Formed by Culture

Culture isn't neutral - it's powerfully shaping and forming us at an unconscious level. We adopt cultural practices without even realizing it. What we hear, what we see is formative; and the values of our world are not the values of God’s Kingdom. When we're formed by culture, our love is soured and our hearts fall into idolatry. We fail to become who God invites us to be if we're unaware of the formative force of our culture. And when culture has our heart, there is little love left for Jesus.
