Talking to God
When the disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray, Jesus gives them a pre-written prayer or script. When you look at how this prayer starts, you see how Jesus is teaching not how to pray, but to whom we pray. John Mark Comer writes that in this, Jesus gives us a "theological orientation" for prayer. The orientation of our prayers matter, and prayer in the Christian tradition has an orientation toward God, the Creator of the universe. As we begin this series, we'll look at why this orientation is important and how talking to God helps us discover and experience the beauty of who God is and leads to a deeper understanding of and deeper connection with God. Abraham Joshua Heschel proclaims, "the issue of prayer is not prayer; the issue of prayer is God."
