Chapter 1: The Sower

Feb 18, 2024    William Jones

As a crowd forms, Jesus begins to teach them with the parable about a sower who spreads seed EVERYWHERE – some on good soil, others in conditions more hostile to growth. Why the sower still sows in these places says a lot about the Sower and about grace. Jesus sows seeds about a new kind of Kingdom, and this parable describes the result that Jesus’ proclamation of the Kingdom will produce and speaks to the many obstacles in our lives/world that can prevent growth or understanding of God’s Kingdom. Jesus invites us to consider and examine the readiness of our own soil and our hearts. Are they hard, thorny, shallow, or pure and unencumbered for what Christ is bringing about and calling us to be part of?
