A Neighbourly Heart

When we want to grow and cultivate a neighbourly heart, we need to look no further than the example of Jesus. The author of the book of Philippians tells us that Jesus emptied himself and took on the nature of a servant. So, why did Jesus empty himself? Because we needed his loving forgiveness? Because we're worthy of being emptied for? Absolutely - but this passage gives us another reason; he did it because that's what he considered being equal with God to mean! The reason he did it is because that is what a God does - and he calls us to do the same.
