Have you ever felt shame? This goes beyond simple embarassment. Shame is that deeply painful sense that we are so flawed and so broken that we are unworthy of love and belonging. Shame is an emotion that affects everyone to differing degrees and yet for us all, it deeply impacts the way we interact with the world - including how we love our neighbour. But when we learn to face and hold ourselves gently, God's still small voice is heard; whispering and reminding us we are his children. And out of that knowledge of our own belovedness, we are able to love ourselves and in turn, better love our neighbours.
