Forgiven at the Table

In the ancient world, the table wasn't just a place where you filled your stomach, life happened around the table. So when Jesus invited Matthew, a Jewish tax collector who was reviled for his allegiance to Rome, to take a seat at his table, the Pharisees and teachers of law took notice. Why would Jesus dine with such sinners? Jesus responds by pointing them to mercy - to people like Matthew who know their shortcomings and need of a Saviour. And when this mercy is extended, transformation takes place around the table.
