Providence

"I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won’t let you stumble, your Guardian God won’t fall asleep." (Psalm 121 // The Message) Taken at face value, this cherished psalm appears to promise more than it delivers. God doesn't always provide the protection we desire, nor the safety this psalm appears to promise. Christians stumble and fall - they experience pain and suffering, accidents and illness. But upon closer reflection, this psalm doesn't say that bad things won’t happen; rather, that the power of evil won't triumph or separate us from God’s provision and purpose for our lives.
