Jesus found himself in hot water with the religious leaders and Pharisees because he was performing miracles and healing on the Sabbath - actions that they considered to be work. How does Jesus respond - would he uphold the law or not? The answer Jesus gives to this question is far more complex - he declares himself to be Lord of the Sabbath and in doing so declares that Sabbath rest has come not in the form of laws, but in the form of a person. Not in the form of one holy day each week, but of every day until eternity.
